En Julio llegan las ballenas jorobadas

De Julio a Octubre se desarrolla en nuestra bella región, Costa Ballena, uno de los fenómenos de la biodiversidad más grandes del mundo, considerada la mayor migración de mamíferos marinos en la tierra (que puede alcanzas hasta 9000 Km de distancia). La llegada de las ballenas jorobadas (Megaptera novaeangliae), que llegan a nuestras cálidas aguas en el Parque Marino Ballena para parir y desarrollar sus crías durante 3-4 meses para volver a sus zonas de alimentación.

Cristal Ballena Birding Highlights

Birding Cristal Ballena grounds and Costa Ballena area is very productive, since in the area have been reported more tan 400 species of birds including very special regional endemics. The hotel reserve is home to more than 250 species of birds and visiting the local birding hotspots the range of birds is bigger. Local hotspots includes the Ballena Marine National Park specially for sea and shore birds, the Terraba-Sierpe Wetlands, home to the endemic Mangrove hummingbird and the Yellow-billed cotinga, The Caño Island, the Corcovado National Park, Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge and Oro Verde private reserve.

Whale watching season is on!

The new whale watching season has started in Costa Ballena. the Humpback whales from the Northern Hemisphere are arriving to our warm and turquoise waters of the Ballena Marine National Park. This is one of the most marvelous wildlife phenomena in sea mammals migration and you can experience it from our property located in a hill overlooking the Marine Park.

December to April we have the visit of the amazing gentle mammals from Alaska and the Arctic. Costa Rica was named by National Geographic one of the Top 10 Wale Watching Hotspots in the world and Costa Ballena is the key are in Costa Rica for experiencing the spectacular journey of the Whales to give birth and train their calves for the journey back to the Arctic. We offers daily whale watching tours during this season, that you can arrange at our front desk or while making your reservation to stay with us. The second season for whatching the gentle sea mammals is July to October when we have the Humpback whales from the Antarctic Peninsula.

The Térraba-Sierpe Wetland is a massive mangrove and wetland area at the mouth of the basins where the Terraba and Sierpe rivers reach the ocean together.
