The Térraba-Sierpe Wetland is a massive mangrove and wetland area at the mouth of the basins where the Terraba and Sierpe rivers reach the ocean together. This is an area that covers almost 67 thousand acres of water and land. This National Wetland was stablished as a protected area by the Government in the early 90s to protect the biodiversity along this unique and special ecosystem in the South Pacific Region of Costa Rica and is one of the most breathtaking locations in the South.
Located just 30 minutes from Cristal Ballena, the wildlife safari can be done by boat or by kayaking for the more adventurous visitors. the network of canals gives you a wide range of animals to be found including crocodiles and caimans, green iguanas and more than 200 species of birds, turtles, monkeys, coatis, raccoons and many more. Reaching the wetlands you will take a quick visit to the colorful village of Sierpe at the side of the river, where you can also get souvenirs and learn about the living of the locals.
